1. Preamble

The following rules and regulations have been approved by the School Management Committee to ensure the smooth running of the school. Everyone is urged to respect them and also ensure they are respected by others. A breach of any of the rules and regulations shall be dealt with by the school management or punishable as it is stated therefore.

2. Admission and enrollment

The main goal of Sandton Junior School is to provide school going children with basic education and assist them during their intellectual development.

The school management therefore shall handle all the school admissions and this exercise is only done in the school office. On admission, a child shall be issued an admission form and he/she shall be allocated a class he/ she qualifies for.

Admission shall be conducted in a specific period of time as desired by the school authorities. An admission fee shall be asked from legible parents who will seek admissions for their children.

3.0 Attendance and school obligations

Enrolled pupils must take part in all school activities correspondence to the school organized programs and shall complete tasks assigned to them.

The school shall require regular attendance from all pupils. In case of failure, an explanation shall be required from the parents/guardians of the child.

Attendance shall be in effect according to the school calendar.

3.1 Absence

Absentism shall be recorded every half of the day by the class teachers.

Families are requested to inform the school authorities of the exact reason to why the child is absent and in writing to when the child is to return to school.

Any absence without legitimate reason(s) or valid excuse is recorded and kept in your child’s file and can be issued any time with your child.

Any child who needs special attention should be reported to the school authorities to ensure maximum attendance/treatment to him or her.

3.2 Hours and organization of school time

Reception
6:45 a.m – 7:45 a.m

Lessons
Start: 8:00a.m End: 4:30 p.m

Remarks
The school gates shall be opened from 6:30a.m -8:20a.m.
Children who are on school bus shall be picked and delivered to their respective parents / homes in the afternoon.
Pupils who are not on school bus, the school shall request their parents to take the responsibility of bringing and picking them up after the closure of the day.

N.B Any changes by the parent must be communicated to the Principal, class teachers and school bus managers. The school shall not seek permission from anyone on changes of time and school programs.

3.3 Disciplinary action

The school has a disciplinary committee headed by the head teacher and it shall have powers to summon anyone for disciplinary action.

All corporal punishments are forbidden. A teacher is not advised to punish any child but in case of a child’s indiscipline then he/she is advised to use segregation method but only under his/her supervision.

Parents of indiscipline children can be summoned by the authorities to discuss their children’s behavior.

4.0 Use of premises

Movement in and around the school is monitored under a CCTV security.

Teachers are required to monitor pupils in and around the school premises to ensure maximum pupils discipline and behavior.

It is forbidden for pupils and teachers to be in corridors during class hours.

It is forbidden for any pupil to come with any sum of money to school or only valuable objects, and dangerous objects that may cause injury to other pupils.

4.1 Damage

Parents shall be financially responsible in case the child causes damage to the school property.

4.2 Theft/loss

The school shall not be responsible for the property, lost/left outside school premises. Any valuable object lost should be reported immediately to the school authorities and will ensure its recovery.

4.3 Entrance

People who are not workers to the school shall enter the school with permission. The only people with the permanent entry are: staff, pupils and inspectors.

During class hours, parents are advised to visit offices but not their children for it inconveniences school programs.

4.4 Hygiene

The hygiene of the school premises is to be maintained daily. This is done to ensure conducive learning environment. Teachers are encouraged to maintain sound hygiene practices. The school is to call upon parents of sickly children to be taken for further treatment after our first aid team.

5.0 Consultation between families and teachers

Parents have at their disposal:
Circulars issued by the management and given to them and signed by the school head teacher.
Any information is passed on the school notice board, radios or bulletins and can be issued at any time.

5.1 Meeting between the parents and teachers

The head teacher and the director of the school shall meet parents during school hours and on appointment.
The teachers meet parents outside classes and only after school hours. Parents are advised not to meet teachers during class hours to avoid lesson inconveniences.

Parent Representatives play the role of intermediary between the teachers, management and parents of the whole school.

6.0 School services
6.1 School Bus Service

This service is organized by the school and it is recommended to only those pupils who have requested and paid for it.

Its payment is to be fully paid on the first day of the school to let the service work effectively. This service is paid every term.

The operators pick and deliver the pupils to the parents in case one fails to pick the child from the bus then operators are requested to reprimand the child back to school. In that matter, the parent is to meet the cost of transport met during the exercise.

6.2 Homework

Parents/guardians are advised to assist their children during the time they are to accomplish their homework. They are also requested to supervise and countersign their children’s homework daily.

6.3 Reception

The school receives from the gate where responsible teachers are standing by the gate. The parents deliver their children to the teachers only at the school gate.

The school has no responsibility on the child given to wrong hands. It shall also give children to only those people registered with the school. This is done to ensure safety of our children.

7. Concluding Remarks

The rules and regulations are established, approved and modified every first meeting of the school management committee each year. These current rules and regulations are distributed to all members of the school community. In case of unforeseen circumstances relating to the current rules and regulations, management has the authority to take all decisions and make necessary changes. We thank you.
